Julian Charrière in Nuit Blanche 2019

Using archival footage, the film Ever Since We Crawled Out shows an endless falling of trees. They fall, one after the other, suspended at the paroxysmal moment that precedes the moment when they will succumb to gravity and crash to the ground. Cracking and groaning as if to resist their fate, they place us in the face of a practice that we enjoy every day but rarely think about. As the slit widens like a wolverine's broad mouth, we see the age circles of the tree, the lifeline of an individual that is an environment ready to be destroyed for the needs of a industry.
