In Instagram jargon, #tbt – acronym for “Throwback Thursday” – is used to caption images from sometime in the past, whether distant or recent. The exhibition draws upon this time shift as a subject to gather artworks from the 80s to the beginning of the 2000s, investigating the various poetics and themes featured on the edge of the these artists’ production. The urge to take a retroactive look at the present evokes the famous quote by Canadian theorist Marshall McLuhan: “We look at the present through a rear-view mirror, we march backwards into the future."
