James Casebere in As Above, So Below

As Above, So Below amasses artworks and ritual objects to explore frameworks of faith, uncertainty, death, remembrance, and transcendence. Looking at the physical structure of religious forms such as altar pieces, icons, and reliquaries, the exhibition asks—in the broadest of ways—how and to what end we ascribe meaning to both every day and extraordinary objects…and that perhaps by believing in certain objects, symbols, or rituals, we can bridge the astral and the divine, influence outcomes, and circumvent chance. The opening reception will take place on September 17th, from 6-8PM.
