Callum Innes: Solo Exhibition

The Whitworth Art Gallery at the University of Manchester will mount a solo exhibition of paintings by Callum Innes. The exhibition, which will be on view from March 2nd through June 16, 2013, will prominently feature works from his series of Exposed Paintings, in which layers of black oil paint are gradually removed to reveal a deep rich hues of color and Monologues, a series in which the washes or removes pigment create an etherial visual effect not unlike that of natural, shifting phenomenons like waterfalls or mists. This exhibition will also feature a selection of works on paper and new watercolours made especially for the Whitworth. Perhaps less well-known than his oils, Innes’ works on paper were some of his earliest experiments in abstraction, and remain an important part of his work today.

In conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, the Whitworth will host an artist's talk with Callum Innes on Saturday March 2nd at 2.30pm; the event is free and open to the public. On Saturday, March 30th, the exhibition's curator will give a tour of the exhibition at 2pm; this event is also free and open to the public.
