Antony Gormley in #StaffPicksSaturday

Cecile Panzieri, Senior Partner, Partner, has chosen Antony Gormley’s sculpture TEND, for #StaffPicksSaturday.

Since leaving the physical space of the gallery on March 13, I have found myself thinking a lot about TEND, a sculpture by Antony Gormley, a work from the POLYHEDRA series, which he developed and produced between 2008 until 2017.

The simultaneously vulnerable, pensive and introspective pose of this sculpture, which sits solidly on the ground, resonates with me in many ways. Multi-faceted both in form and meaning, it elicits profound emotions, especially during this time of disruption, distancing and isolation. Its strength is grounding and reassuring. I find that its evocative serenity and steady presence engenders a poetic and transcendental reflection on life and time - past, present, and future, allowing me to connect, listen and tend to my inner life. I look forward to returning to the gallery and again seeing in person this artwork which gives me so much sustenance at this time.
