Anthony McCall: Leaving (with Two-Minute Silence)

Anthony McCall: Leaving (with Two-Minute Silence)
Oshman Hall, McMurtry Building, Stanford University, California
October 6 - October 16, 2015

The Stanford Department of Art & Art History is delighted to present an installation and lecture by artist Anthony McCall as the first major event of the department’s inaugural year in the new McMurtry Building. McCall is known for his ‘solid-light’ installations, which he began to create in the early 1970s. Occupying a space between sculpture, cinema and drawing, today these works use digital technology to produce meticulously choreographed intersecting lines and curves projected in darkened haze-filled rooms, creating three-dimensional sculptural forms constructed from light. Leaving (with Two-Minute Silence) is the first of McCall’s oeuvre to incorporate the element of sound.

Anthony McCall will present a lecture on Wednesday, October 7, at 5:30pm in the Auditorium of the Cantor Arts Center. Guests should enter through the Diekman Rotunda, adjacent to the Rodin Sculpture Garden. This lecture is free and open to the public.
