Julião Sarmento

Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, GAM, will present a special exhibition, Julião Sarmento: Lo Sguardo Selettivo, from June 13 to August 31, 2014 as the third chapter of their Analects series. This exhibition series is meant to establish a dialogue between active international artists and selected works from the permanent collection. Sarmento has chosen two different artists from GAM’s permanent collection who have inspired his artistic research: Giorgio Morandi and Sol LeWitt.

The exhibition encompasses work from Sarmento’s entire career, from the late seventies to present day, and will take a thematic approach. It will begin with works that revolve around the female figure and conclude with works devoted to architecture, including two video works, Cromlech, 2010 and ROC (40 plus one), 2011. The exhibition will also include a selection of works by Morandi and LeWitt chosen by Sarmento.

The exhibition marks Sarmento’s first museum show in Italy in over fifteen years. A forthcoming publication will accompany the exhibition.
