A new public commission by Janaina Tschäpe, titled On memory and plants, 2025, has been unveiled at Tampa International Airport, Florida. Commissioned as part of the airport’s renowned Public Art Programme, the monumental painting, created on 6 aluminium panels, unfolds as an immersive environment where nature, memory and imagination converge.
Keeping the historical context in mind while acknowledging Tampa International Airport as a big hub, where people are in transition between countries and cultures, Tschape connects the dots and lines of railroad, aviation and other progress that changed Florida's landscape from swamps to a major international city for markets and exchanges. Her painting has channels carved into aluminum plates.
