Iran do Espírito Santo: Wall Drawings

IRAN DO ESPIRITO SANTO, En Passant 2, 2008, Household paint on wall,
dimensions variable. Installation at the Sean Kelly Gallery, New York.

Sean Kelly is delighted to announce that Iran do Espírito Santo is the subject of a solo exhibition at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery of the Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary, Canada. The exhibition, which will open with a reception on June 30th, was curated by Wayne Baerwaldt and is a twenty year survey of Espírito Santo's large-scale wall drawings.

Iran do Espírito Santo is best known for his sensuously minimalist work that deals with issues of place, structure, material, design and surface with a rigorous conceptual sensibility. The exhibition underscores Espírito Santo's idiosyncratic and refined blend of Minimalism, Pop and Surrealism, focusing on his exploration of the space between the concrete and the abstract.

Iran do Espírito Santo has received significant international acclaim in the past two decades. His works have been exhibited extensively in museums and galleries worldwide and are included in the permanent collections of many prominent international museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain; Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil; and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland. His work has been included in the Venice Biennale, the Bienal de São Paulo and the Istanbul Biennal.

Iran do Espírito Santo will have his fourth exhibition at Sean Kelly Gallery in the spring of 2012.
