Hugo McCloud is celebrated for his paintings that examine a wide range of subjects including labor, nature, still lifes, and abstraction. Hugo McCloud: to everything there is a season features selections from several ongoing bodies of work composed of materials such as aluminum foil, tar paper, and/or hundreds of pieces of single-use plastic the artist has sourced, hand-cut, and ironed into place. McCloud’s Burdened Man series, which presents scenes of men whose daily work requires repetitive, physical labor, forms the majority of works in the exhibition. Overall, his paintings examine brief glimpses of daily life in locations as varied as Los Angeles, Morocco, India, and Qatar.
The exhibition presents more than twenty-five paintings created between 2020 and 2026—including several new works making their public debut—that chart the ongoing evolution of McCloud’s inventive artistic practice.
