Kristy Chan (b. 1997, Hong Kong) is a London-based painter whose expressive, abstract canvases radiate with emotional intensity and a restless curiosity about the world and self. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan relocated to the London, where she discovered her passion for painting and went on to complete her BFA at the Slade School of Fine Art followed by an MA in Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.
Chan’s work occupies a vivid middle ground between figuration and abstraction, evolving over time into richly layered, gestural compositions that reflect both the immediacy of lived experience and the complexities of memory, identity, and place. Her densely layered oil paintings act as visual archives of intense personal encounters, capturing fleeting moments of joy, tension, and introspection.
Throughout her practice, Chan draws inspiration from her existences between London and Hong Kong, exploring the interplay between Eastern and Western cultures and the subtle ways environments shape perception. She has described her abstract spaces as “stolen realities” — fragments of everyday life refracted through paint and humor.
Chan’s work has been featured internationally in both solo and group exhibitions and continues to evolve in response to personal experience, cultural dialogue, and an irrepressible inventive spirit.
