Frieze Viewing Room 2020

Sean Kelly is pleased to share our presentation for the inaugural Frieze Viewing Room, BEFORE / AFTER which takes its title from the work of the same name created by Peter Liversidge in 2012. In that sculpture, each of the two words, “before” and “after,” is illuminated randomly—never simultaneously—toggling back and forth with no discernable pattern or logic. One can never be sure if the present is “before” or “after.” This compelling work offers not only an apt metaphor for the uncertain times in which we find ourselves living, but also comments poetically on the unpredictable and fragile nature of time. Expanding on the theme of before and after, our viewing room will include works both classic and new, including pieces made expressly for inclusion in this presentation by Jose Davila, Callum Innes, Sam Moyer, Janaina Tschäpe, and Wu Chi-Tsung. We will also include important selections by many of the iconic artists with whom we work, including Marina Abramović, Dawoud Bey, Antony Gormley, Rebecca Horn and Joseph Kosuth, amongst others.
