For this year's Art Basel Miami Beach art fair, Sean Kelly will present a carefully curated booth (B17) highlighting new and important works from the gallery's diverse, intellectually-driven program. The booth will be organized into sections underscoring the figurative, conceptual and abstract aspects of the gallery's program. Central to the booth and uniting these key concepts will be the towering Kosmaj Toy, a remarkable new sculpture from Los Carpinteros constructed of LEGO® bricks that draws inspiration from the Serbian Kosmaj monument which, though now in a state of disrepair, was once a popular tourist site commemorating the fallen soldiers of the Kosmaj Partisan detachment from World War II. The booth will further feature a selection of new works from gallery artists, including sculptures by Iran do Espírito Santo, Leandro Erlich, Antony Gormley and Nathan Mabry, paintings by Laurent Grasso, Callum Innes, Julião Sarmento and Kehinde Wiley, photographs by Marina Abramović, James Casebere, Robert Mapplethorpe, Alec Soth and Frank Thiel, and light works by Peter Liversidge and Terence Koh.
Concurrently on view at the Miami beachfront adjacent to Collins Park (between 21 and 22 Streets), Los Carpinteros will present Güiro, an art bar installation produced in collaboration with Absolut Art Bureau. Titled both for the eponymous Cuban percussion instrument and the Cuban slang term for party, Güiro will be lit from within and create a multi-purpose space to accomodate visitors to the bar and the curated program of performances and special events taking place throughout the fair.
