Meridians

Jose Dávila | M34
Located in Canal Park, at the North entrance of the Miami Beach Convention Center, at Washington Ave between 20th and 21st streets

Los Límites de lo Posible, 2019
Installation
Recinto, volcanic rock, raw sandstone boulders

Originally produced for the Bienal de La Habana 2019, Jose Dávila’s installation for Meridians is comprised of six sculptures composed of recinto, a volcanic rock, and raw sandstone boulders. The interaction between the perfect geometric shapes of the recinto volumes and the capricious forms of the unaltered boulders, reveals a contrast, precariousness and playfulness which is an essential part of Dávila’s sculptural practice. Alternating between tension and rest, fragility and solidity, the material disparity highlights the collaboration between the different elements to achieve permanence and balance.

Wu Chi-Tsung | M18
Grand Ballroom

Cyano-Collage 064, 2019
Cyanotype photography, Xuan paper, acrylic gel
118 1/8 x 236 1/4 inches

Wu Chi-Tsung's Cyano-Collage works explore the relationship between the image, it’s making, and the viewer’s perception. The Cyano-type process was invented in the 19th century to duplicate engineering drawings. Wu Chi-Tsung employs his own contemporary version of this process, by which he manipulates light sensitive cyanotype paper to create images that at a glance resemble traditional Chinese landscapes. Connecting Eastern and Western culture and art, Wu Chi-Tsung integrates traditional aesthetics with his own startling contemporary language.

Miami Beach Convention Center West Lobby

Joseph Kosuth | Permanent public installation

Located World, 2019
Neon

Located World, Miami Beach, is the newest iteration of a series of works that Joseph Kosuth has previously exhibited in Europe and Japan. The installation signifies a sense of place and answer our ‘will to know’ specifically where we are. The work is about how a community defines itself both within and without borders. Configured in geographic relation to the rest of the world, the size of the name of each location is scaled in direct proportion to the distance from Miami Beach; the closer a location is the larger it appears. This ‘map of the world’, consisting of the names of cities and towns, chosen both arbitrarily and purposefully, becomes an alternative global network, reordering geopolitical privilege and prominence by flattening differences to proximity versus distance.

Leandro Erlich
Order of Importance, 2019
December 1 – 15, 2019
South Beach, at Lincoln Road

The City of Miami Beach will present the Order of Importance, a monumental site-specific installation by Leandro Erlich, organized and curated by Ximena Caminos in collaboration with Brandi Reddick. Taking place from December 1–15, 2019, Order of Importance will be a temporary intervention located on the ocean front at Lincoln Road. Leandro Erlich will recast the 21st century traffic jam as 66 life-size sand-like replicas of cars and trucks queued along the shore of the beach.
