Sean Kelly is delighted to return to Zona Maco in Mexico City. Exemplifying the Gallery's commitment to championing important contemporary art, we will present a carefully curated selection of works, including sculpture, painting, and photography.
Our booth will feature an important large-scale photo work by the iconic Marina Abramović; a sculpture and photographs by Julian Charrière, whose practice is rooted in geology, biology, physics, history, and archaeology. Charrière’s oeuvre explores how human civilization, and the natural landscape are inextricably linked; a major new sculpture by Jose Dávila which explores the tension and balance between constructed and organic materials; a selection of Laurent Grasso’s Panoptes which allude to the mythological figure of the shepherd Argos Panoptes. The motif of the eye reflects a desire for omniscience that comes up against the opacity of a changing world; John Guzman’s new oil paintings focus on fragmentation of the body as a way to explore unfamiliar possibilities of the human form; Ilse D’Hollander’s paintings reveal an acute understanding of the nuances of composition and color. Her work is distinguished by its subtle tonalities, depicting variations in scale and surface that give her work its contemplative tranquility; made on plywood panels, Callum Innes’s new tondo paintings mark a dramatic departure from the artist’s rectangular format and invite a range of new interpretations, both formally and psychologically; a photo work by Idris Khan includes densely layered imagery that speaks to themes of history, cumulative experience, and the metaphysical collapse of time into single moments; new paintings by Sam Moyer continue her investigation of abstraction through the languages of painting and sculpture; a work by Loló Soldevilla, the most significant woman artist to be prominently associated with the development of geometric abstraction in Cuba; Frank Thiel’s photographs of spaces in Berlin reflect its recent turbulent social and political history; and Janaina Tschäpe’s dynamic yet, nuanced canvases which evoke associations with nature, as her atmospheric images subtly shift between representation and abstraction.
